a lovely sentiment

9 Jul

I’ve been doing a little bit of Googling tonight, looking for blogs that focus on Southern-inspired decorating. I clicked on a random blog that I don’t even remember now, and the blogger’s “about me” blurb caught my eye. I loved one little sentence so much that I had to make a graphic out of it. I hope I can remember that this is true for me.

Happy Sunday, y’all. :)

Good Things: March

4 Apr

I’m a little bit late with this, but I had to get through a busy weekend!

good things, one for every day of the year
1. Rachel Hawkins’ book Demonglass came out!

2. Somebody drove a car into the Ridgeland Walmart and I found it inexplicably giggle-inducing.

3. All my favorites made it to the American Idol top 10!

4. I saw the announcement that there’s another Bridget Jones book and movie in the works, and do you know what that means? COLIN. FIRTH.

5. My sweet friend Grace got married, and it was truly the most worshipful wedding I’ve ever attended. It was lovely.

6. We did a bunch of research and decided kind of on the fly to buy a Kindle. Hooray for getting it for free thanks to Swagbucks!

7. I ordered the Kindle! Whee!

8. Laissez les Bon Temps Roulez!

9. THE KINDLE HAS LANDED.

10. Book club inaugural meeting at Sweet Tree Yogurt! Great conversation with fun friends, and the discovery of Sweet Tree. YUM.

11. Finished Katie Crouch’s The Magnolia League, which was seriously good. And I took my fellas to Sweet Tree. They loved it, too!

12. I had a fun solo shopping excursion. And at supper OT wanted us to pray again and asked that we pray for his Papa, my father. :)

13. Finished a great book that comes out in October. I love netGalley!

14. Spring Break! Also, we won a free 20 lb. bag of dog food from Kroger, but since we don’t have a dog, we donated it to a shelter. It was fun to teach OT about caring for all God’s creatures!

15. Made chicken salad. Mmm.

16. OT slept until 10:30. He loves spring break!

17. Drove to Hattiesburg with OT to spend two nights with my folks. We found his Easter outfit and had lunch at Mellow Mushroom.

18. Went to New Orleans to the zoo! OT LOVED it and was super-sweet the whole day.

19. Back home! We had a great trip but I was SO happy to be back in my house with my cute husband, and to sleep in my own bed!

20. First day of spring! In the afternoon, we cleaned up the back porch and lots of flower pots, getting them ready for spring planting.

21. By working a sale and having the right coupons, I got 20 boxes of pasta at Kroger for FREE. That’ll last us a year, at least!

22. OT was sick with a fever, so we stayed home from Mother’s Morning Out and had lots of snuggles.

23. On the way home from choir practice, OT told me that the sun is the mama, the moon is the daddy, and all the stars are their babies. So sweet.

24. Found out that OPI has a polish coming out this fall inspired by my hometown. Wow!

25. Did a little blogging about Sweet Tree Yogurt for Eat Jackson. And I read that Tom Hooper may direct a film version of Les Miserables!

26. Got a beautiful geranium at my neighborhood farmers market.

27. Lovely, relaxing Sunday.

28. This was a tough one. I found out that one of our ministers has been called to another church, very far away. It was a sad day, but I did get a baby shower invitation for a friend who just adopted a baby boy.

29. It felt like fall outside, netGalley books were made available for the Kindle, and I had sweet prayer time with OT before bed. It was a good day!

30. Choir practice with Jackson State University’s concert chorale in preparation for Sunday night’s worship service. That choir is SO GOOD!

31. Another practice with JSU, this time with full orchestra. I could sing “Total Praise” every day and be happy.

2011 Good Things – February

28 Feb

Previous Months: January

good things, one for every day of the year

1. I saw a preview photo for the China Glaze “Metro” collection, which comes out in July, and I got SERIOUSLY happy. There are 12 colors, and I’m pretty sure I want seven of them. :D

2. College football signing day! The Ole Miss Rebels picked up some great recruits!

3. I spent about 30 minutes (seriously) standing at my kitchen window watching about 20 red-wing blackbirds get spooked away from our bird feeder by one fiery, feisty, brilliant red cardinal. It was a hoot, and better than TV!

4. OT and I were supposed to go into work today for the church’s missions conference (which I didn’t want to do!) but it was canceled due to icy roads. Whee!

5. I went to see The King’s Speech again, and ran into several friends from church.

6. I finished a book that I loved, and later I joined lots of people in heavily snarking various aspects of entertainment at the Super Bowl.

7. Got a free download of a Tony Lucca album, and spent some time watching Hotel Babylon on DVD.

8. I decided that I see the fiery red cardinal in my back yard so much that he needs a name. It’s Dave.

9. Snow! We got over an inch, but it was really wet and hadn’t been cold for very long, so it didn’t stick. It was awfully pretty and we got to play outside in it, though!

10. Valentine’s party at work!

11. Bought a new, much-needed Crockpot and surprised my honey at work with Chick-Fil-A fries!

12. Haley Barbour gave an incredible speech at CPAC. I want him to run for President! (Also, it’s my daddy’s birthday!)

13. We spent the Sunday school hour in the choir room, talking with friends, and it was so lovely and refreshing. And that night, Colin Firth won best actor at the BAFTAs!

14. My sweetheart brought me roses and cards, and we shared yummy chocolate fondue together!

15. It was gorgeous out, so we spent a lot of time on the playground! And that night, John took OT to Bible study with him for pizza and guy time!

16. It was very tough to find something good today, amid a sea of bad news all around. But here’s the one good thing: the Borders closest to me isn’t closing.

17. The cast of The King’s Speech was on Piers Morgan’s show!

18. After another tough day, I settled in for the evening with TV with my sweetheart, and some cold Abita Amber. We love that stuff.

19. John gave all the ceiling fans a thorough cleaning, which is good because we’re really starting to need them!

20. Church was extra sweet today: great sermon, great music in worship, great Sunday school lesson!

21. I heard a neighbor’s lawnmower running and it filled me with joy.

22. I baked brownies, and John and I each had one warm from the oven, and they were perfect. Mmm.

23. I used the #SwagBucks hashtag on Twitter and was awarded 100 extra SwagBucks!

24. Comcast changed the DVR on-screen guide to a much more user-friendly one. It’s the little things!

25. I started watching North and South. Full verdict withheld until I finish it, but I like it so far! I do love a BBC period drama!

26. OT and I went to Hattiesburg to spend the day with my parents, his Mimi and Papa. We had a great time!

27. I was OVERJOYED to watch Colin Firth win his MUCH-deserved Oscar for Best Actor! And yay also for the director, Tom Hooper; the screenwriter, David Seidler; and the film The King’s Speech, which won Best Picture!

28. Today was SwagBucks’ third birthday, and through various codes and searches, I won 135 SwagBucks! That’s definitely the most I’ve ever won in a day. You can start winning, too. Sign up here!

2011 Good Things – January

1 Feb

For longer than I can remember, I’ve been reading Kari’s blog at Through A Glass, Darkly. I never really comment there, but I’m always reading! She does a monthly “good things” post. She keeps track daily of something good that happened that day. Simple as that. I think it’s a great practice, so I started on January 1. It’s nice to sit down at the end of the day and think back to what made me happy!

good things, one for every day of the year
1. Mississippi State destroyed Michigan 52-14 in the Gator Bowl; we went out for Chinese food in the evening.

2. I did a lot of reading and we had a yummy supper of chicken and couscous.

3. I finished reading the best book I’ve read in a couple years, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins.

4. Mother’s Morning Out resumed today. It was great to see my kids and my sweet co-workers. I missed them over the Christmas break.

5. Choir practice! Oh, how I have missed my beloved church choir over the Christmas break!

6. We weren’t feeling too great from our lingering illnesses, so we got a takeout pizza and I didn’t have to cook.

7. Abita beer and TV with my honey! We watched The Soup and two episodes of House.

8. I made salsa and black bean cakes from scratch, and they were both yummy.

9. We had a mini ice storm, but thankfully, we were home safe in our warm house!

10. John got to go in late to work due to the weather, so we slept late.

11. I started a good book (Matched by Ally Condie).

12. Choir practice was lots of fun. Our director had some great jokes.

13. I went to Easely Amused by myself. Even though the painting I did didn’t turn out great, it was nice to get out like that by myself.

14. John and I had Bop’s after OT went to bed!

15. We went to Miskelly’s and bought OT’s big boy bed and dresser!

16. It was pretty exciting watching Chris Colfer win a Golden Globe. I love his character on Glee! And Colin Firth won best actor for The King’s Speech! Swoon!

17. OT’s cousin N. (a boy!) was born!

18. I finished reading Ally Condie’s Matched. It was an incredible book, and I can’t wait for the next one.

19. There were two great soups at the church salad bar (buffalo chicken and chicken dumplings) and I had a small bowl of each!

20. John and I had our interview for the preschool we hope to send OT to. We love the school!

21. OT’s big boy bed arrived, and he took a nap in it and slept all night without a single problem! I’m so proud of him!

22. We went to Hattiesburg to meet our new nephew. He’s adorable! We also saw our entire family and had nice visits.

23. John and I tried out a new Sunday school class and felt very comfortable in it. It’s time for a change. I also took a good nap in the afternoon.

24. John and I had ice cream after OT went to bed. Totally indulgent for a Monday night!

25. My boss brought her Keurig to work and I had the most perfectly-brewed cup of English Breakfast tea ever. I’m easily pleased!

26. I painted my nails with the coolest color I own, Orly’s “Space Cadet.”

27. We watched The Social Network after OT went to bed. I didn’t understand most of the computer geek stuff, but I enjoyed it!

28. Gorgeous day! OT and I ran some errands, and later that night we had a date eating Chinese together when John was at the Mid South Men’s Rally at church. And I painted my nails with the new OPI color “Teenage Dream,” which is a gorgeous and super-glittery pink!

29. I went to see The King’s Speech, which was just about the most perfect film I’ve ever seen. Also, it was a beautiful 70-degree day and we spent fun time outside in the back yard.

30. I was thrilled to see my all-time favorite actor, Colin Firth, win the best actor award at the SAG Awards, and the cast of The King’s Speech won best ensemble. So well-deserved! Onward to the Oscars!

31. OT went to bed early and John and I watched two episodes of House.

I definitely have a pattern. The things that make me happiest are spending time with my guys, good books, good food, choir practice, and nail polish. Expect to see more of the same all year!
